American Like Me

America Ferrera is the editor of American Like Me. Ferrera’s parents came to the US from Honduras. Ferrera speaks of her own immigrant experience and that of her parents in three sections: an introduction, an essay set amid essays from others, and a conclusion. Each takes issue with Ferrera’s existence as an American individual others often don’t value. Ferrera lived her life thus far in service of showing others people of diverse backgrounds deserve to have their stories told. With this collection, Ferrera asked a number of celebrities with diverse cultural backgrounds to weigh in on what it means to be American. Ferrera is best known for her roles on The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Ugly Betty, Real Women Have Curves, and her activist work for human rights.
