The color green is cited frequently in the novel, in the contexts of vegetation and eye color. When the color is mentioned, does it most frequently refer to nature or to genetic engineering? What does green come to represent over the course of the novel?
Teaching Suggestion: Review with students some common associations with the color green, including youth, innocence, jealousy, and wealth.
Differentiation Suggestion: For visual students, post green images such as vegetation, dollar bills, eye color, and so on. Then, ask students to name associations. Record the associations on sticky notes and place them on the associated images. What conclusions can students draw about the color green?
