Activities

Use this activity to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

“Community Service Proposal”

After reading about community service clubs in Slacker, students will break into groups to come up with their own community service activity to present to the class.

You’ve read about the many ways kids can help their communities in Slacker. Now, imagine your class is a community service club like the P.A.G. You and your group will come up with a community service project to propose to the class. At the end of the assignment, the class will vote on which project they’d like to do.

  • Research different ways you can help your community and come up with a project that you and your group agree on.
  • Make a list of materials you would need to complete the project. (For example, if your project involves cleaning up garbage, you might include trash bags and gloves on your list.)
  • Write three persuasive reasons why this project is important.
  • Create a poster or tri-fold board to present your project to the class. Include your materials list and reasons the project is important. Use at least two visual aids.
