Michael E. Porter (born in 1947) is an American business and economics writer and currently a Bishop William Lawrence University Professor at Harvard Business School. In addition to The Competitive Advantage of Nations (1990), he has authored other works, including Competitive Strategy (1980) and Competitive Advantage (1985) and is co-author with Elizabeth Olmsted Teisberg of Redefining Healthcare (2006). He has also published numerous articles on healthcare, competition, and competitive strategy.

In 1983, he served on President Reagan’s Commission on Industrial Competitiveness and has advised business leaders and politicians from around the world. For his work in business and economics, he has won the Wells Prize in Economics, the Adam Smith Award, and three McKinsey Awards.
